Our speaker Tuesday, January 20, will be Tom Howell, a professional and Olympic curler. 

     Curling is a precision team sport where players slide heavy granite stones across ice toward a target ("the house"), aiming to get their stones closer to the center (the "button") than the opponent's, scoring points for each stone closer than the opposition after all stones are thrown in an "end". The game, often called "chess on ice," involves strategy, teamwork, and the unique "curl" (curve) of the stone due to its rotation and the pebbled ice surface, modified by sweeping to control distance and direction. Sydney Bertolino was named the TM Rotary Club's most recent Student of the Month. This Homestead High School senior is an exceptional student. She is a member of National Honor Society, a dedicated volunteer active with National Honor Society, Letters of Love for veterans, and Camp Reunite. She is also an athlete, competing in both hockey and track. Inspired by her mother's best friend, Sydney plans to study to be a civil engineer.  

Rachel Proeber, owner of two Milwaukee-area Board & Brush franchises, talked to us about the unique DIY business that offers hands-on workshops with projects that can be completed in just a couple of hours. To prove her point, Angelica Neimann followed Rachel's directions to create a one-of-a kind project while we watched, from distressing, to staining, to stenciling, and personalizing. Jim Counsellor attested to how much fun Board & Brush workshops can be to share with children and grandchildren.
