Our medical resources partnership started with an idea in 2003 to bring medical relief to poverty-stricken Guatemala. Doug Hansen brought the idea to Shelley Weston who was the Director of International Service for our club. A committee was formed and David O'Connor found a Rotarian in Madison, Kico, who owned a ranch near Oliveros in the Santa Rosa department of Guatemala.

After many planning meetings and the blessing of the T-M Rotary board, the first trip included 23 volunteers. From the beginning, volunteers paid their own way. The clinic was held in a public school. That first trip changed people's lives, both the volunteers and the recipients.

Projects have included: a clean water well, upgraded electrical outletsin the school, a scholarship fund to pay for education beyond grade five, and  a coordinator who helps negotiate follow-up surgical procedures. You can access additional stories and information at: http://gmrp.org. If you are inclined to make a tax deductible donation from the website, be sure to include that you are a member of our club.
