This year Rotary celebrates 121 years of service. It is a global network of more than 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.
This Month's Stories
Business Meeting
Tuesday is the monthly business meeting of the Thiensville-Mequon Rotary Club. This is a good reminder that Rotary is about more than good company, interesting programs, and tasty lunches. It is at these monthly meetings that the club decides what projects to support and to what extent, be they local, regional, or international. Join us to help create the future. And you still get to enjoy good company and a tasty lunch.
Rotary Magazine features Wisconsin communities
In an article entitled "Destination: Rotary," the author, Geoffrey Johnson highlighted three Wisconsin communties with long-standing Rotary clubs, Black River Falls, Lake Mills, and Port Washington.
Johnson wrote, "If you are going to visit one US State that's in many ways representative of the other 49, you couldn't go wrong  by choosing Wisconsin. The state ranks 20th in terms of population, 23rd in area, and 26th in median income. In other words, smack in the middle of the pack.
"...I came away feeling optimistic about the future of those towns I visited, hopeful for the prospects of the people who live there, and and impressed by Rotary's vitality."
Enjoy the article in the March 2026 issue of Rotary Magazine, including the lovely illustrations by Jennifer Maravillas-Bell.

Great Lakes, Great Lessons
Our guest speaker Tuesday, March 3, is Todd Gordon, a lifelong history enthusiast and current vice prdsident of the Wisconsin Marine Historical Society's Board of Trustees. He will share the story of the SS Eastland, a passenger steamer that capsized in the Chicago River July 24, 1915, resulting in the larges loss of life in Great Lakes shipping history.
Todd will also challenge us to find out what many disparate people and things have to do with this vessel. So pay attention, because on the surface it is diffult to find commonality among mashed potatoes, the Denis Sullivan, George Halas, Clarence Darrow, Ernie Pyle, and Oprah Winfrey, among others.
